The Heart Behind My Photography Business: Why This Wedding Changed Everything

Some weddings stay with you long after the gallery is delivered. Long after the camera is put away. This is one of those stories, and it perfectly captures the heart behind my photography business.

Lauren and Brian had booked me as their wedding photographer for their upcoming summer wedding. Everything was planned, calm, and joyful… until Lauren reached out again a few months before their scheduled date. I could tell immediately something was different.

She gently asked if there was any way we could move their Morton Arboretum wedding up to the following Tuesday.

Brian’s mom had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. They didn’t know how much time they had left with her, but they knew one thing with absolute certainty: they wanted her there when they said I do. So Lauren and Brian did something extraordinary. They decided to plan an entire wedding in less than a week.

When Lauren shared their situation, there was never a question in my mind. This is exactly why I do what I do. I was going to make it work, no matter what.

A Chilly Spring Morning for a Morton Arboretum Wedding

On a cool spring morning, I traveled to the stunning Morton Arboretum to document a day that was guaranteed to be emotional in every possible way. The Arboretum, with its peaceful landscapes and quiet beauty, felt like the perfect place for an intimate wedding rooted in love, family, and presence.

Lauren was exactly what you’d expect on her wedding day, smiling, nervous, glowing. All she wanted was to see Brian.

And when I tell you their relationship is something special, I mean it with my whole heart. The way they look at each other, the calm they bring one another. It’s rare. It’s the kind of love you feel just by standing near it.

Lauren finally walked down the aisle into a breathtaking glass ceremony space, flooded with light. It was intimate, emotional, and absolutely spectacular.

A Ceremony Filled With Meaning

The ceremony concluded with a traditional tea ceremony, adding another deeply meaningful layer to an already unforgettable moment. Afterward, the celebration continued with speeches and dances. Each one filled with love and a bittersweet awareness of just how precious this time was.

One of the most emotional moments of the day was Brian sharing a mother-son dance with his mom. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Lauren later danced with her dad, another moment filled with tenderness and gratitude.

It was everything you could imagine and more.

Why I Do This Work

After the ceremony, we took a walk around Morton Arboretum for portraits, and somehow, even in the midst of everything, Lauren and Brian laughed. They held hands. They were present. We captured portraits that weren’t just beautiful, but honest.

This wedding wasn’t about perfection (though I believe it was absolutely perfect in every way). It wasn’t about timelines or trends. It was about showing up for the people you love while you still can.

That’s the heart behind my photography business.

I believe wedding photography is about more than pretty images. It’s about preserving moments that matter. It’s about being flexible, compassionate, and fully invested in my couples. Not just as clients, but as people walking through one of the most important days of their lives.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer who understands that life doesn’t always go according to plan, and that love is worth documenting no matter what, I would be honored to tell your story.

Because these are the moments you’ll never get back, and they deserve to be remembered forever. 🤍
